Veterans Services

The Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department assists veterans and their family members through our Making Connections program. Our goal is to help veterans and their family members find and navigate the services that they need by providing referrals and information. In addition to assisting those with services requests, following are some of the other ways that we are working to assist veterans in our service area:

  • Work with the local Veterans Resource Officers and other agencies and organizations to host events and informational booths that help create awareness of veteran resources and help connect veterans to services that they may need.
  • Question Persuade Refer (QPR) training for veterans groups, families, service organizations and businesses.  QPR is a suicide prevention/early recognition training. Suicide rates among veterans are a concern, and this invaluable training helps people recognize and have the tools to talk with individuals who may be in need of help. In addition, reducing the stigma that may come along with reaching out and seeking these resources is vital for people to reach out to seek help.
  • Represent ELVPHD on the Nebraska Veteran & Family Task force meetings, Northeast Nebraska Suicide Coalition and the Continuum of Care Meetings. These groups (and others that we are involved in) helps keep us aware of the services and resources available so we can connect veterans and their families to those agencies.
  • Assess the needs of the veteran population through ELVPHD's Community Health Assessment and other tools which help us to learn about the needs of veterans and/or their family members.
