Multi-county health departments were formed following the passage of a legislative bill that encouraged county commissioners and supervisors to discuss the advantages public health departments could bring to their constituents. Although LB692 was passed in May of 2001, Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department's Board of Health held its organizational meeting in January of 2002 after a thorough and thought filled consideration of the various ways to make public health a reality.
